Okay, so you’ve hit your forties and agghhhhh! What’s that ripple effect on your upper thighs, stomach and arms?! Public enemy number one for women, cellulite is, for most of us, one of those frustrating things that we have to deal with as we approach menopause. Your aging body starts to store fat in places it never did before…and it’s not smooth fat; it’s lumpy, bumpy, cellulite. The severity depends on your diet and exercise regimen as well as a few other mitigating factors. If you’re afflicted, read on for Styling Diva’s reviews on these cellulite products currently on the market.
1. Lierac Paris – Ultra Body Lift 10 – Anti Cellulite Gel – Price Range $58.00
Liposculpting concentrate with anti-orange peel skin action. This is a good value for the money. Gives an almost immediate firming effect that increases with usage. It’s an easy to smooth on gel that absorbs quickly so you don’t have to keep rubbing and rubbing it in. Convenient squeeze bottle. Contains caffeine.
2. Lierac Paris – Body Slim – Multi Action Concentrate – Price Range – $60.00
Containing herbal extracts that attack cellulite on a sub-dermal level, this product comes in a convenient pump bottle and is also easy to apply and quite effective.
3. Biotherm – Cellulite Regimen — Body Sculptor, Celluli Eraser, Cellu-Laser Intensive Night – Price Range $ 66.00 to $100.00
These 3 products when used concurrently seemed to work quite well on my very stubborn cellulite. They are a bit pricey but give a good result. You could probably get away without buying all three. I’d say the Intensive Night is the best option;
4. Biotherm – Celluli Laser S. Code – Price Range $ 65.00
Advanced Smoothing and Firming Cream Stomach/Waist – I haven’t had spectacular results from this. Also the Body Sculptor works well on all areas of the body;
5. Victoria’s Secret – Love Thighself – Price Range – $45.00
Cellulite Smoothing Cream – This reduced the number of ripples substantially to my surprise and bonus, it smells nice! It has an immediate effect so if you’re about to head down south for a warm weather break, you don’t have to start using it 3 weeks ahead of time. Easy to order online and fast to ship.
After using it, I actually felt confident enough to remove my bathing suit cover up and walk into the water without feeling like everyone on the beach was staring at my orange peel thighs in horror. Yes, I could follow a stricter diet but I find it takes all the fun out of eating and the way I see it, I only wear a bathing suit a few times a year anyway. The rest of the time, I cover up my junk food sins with artful fashion choices.
Between this one and the Biotherm though, I felt the Biotherm regimen worked a bit better, but you have 3 products to buy and apply 3 times daily, whereas this is only one. The Lierac concentrates work equally well as the Biotherm regimen and again, only one product to apply.
Other combat strategies against cellulite include drinking a lot of water, cutting excess fat, sugar and calories out of your diet, regular exercise and dry sauna; especially infrared sauna, which can make a visible difference to your cellulite if you take one at least 3 times a week.
As for clothing, the best leggings to hide cellulite are patterned types and darker colors in fabrics that are not too thin and NOT spandex. If your problem area, like many women, is at the top of your thigh, you can camouflage with short, flirty skirts over leggings or a long shirt pulled down. Tight fitting fabrics can either pull it in or accentuate the bulges if you’re not careful. Jeans are good. Thicker materials are better so you can’t see the bumps. I’m so glad midi length and A-line skirts are in again.
Interestingly, I once surveyed a group of men while on a cruise as to how they felt about cellulite on a woman…answers were unanimous…unless it’s VERY bad, most men don’t really notice cellulite. They are too focused on breasts, butts etc. So ladies, we are our own worst enemies but I must admit that I am the first one to try anything to rid myself of this pitted scourge. I will update my findings as better products come out on the market. Until then, fight the good fight. Try some of the many solutions that are available at your local pharmacy and you may be, as I was, surprised with the results.
