Everyone’s favorite celebrity musicians were strolling the Grammy’s red carpet In Hollywood on Sunday. As to be expected, red carpet fashion goes off the wall for this event as each person strives to stand out in the crowd. The Grammy’s are more of a ‘fun’ fashion night for many performers where they can really let their personality shine through. The biggest stand outs were…
Rihanna waited for the last minute to make her appearance on the red carpet and she certainly wowed in this huge, fluffy pink gown from Giambattista Valli. Although I’m sure it’s fun to wear (except for getting in and out of cars or through doorways…note she was seated in the front row, on a corner to accommodate the sheer volume of her dress) I can’t help but thinking that this would be a great maternity gown for someone. I don’t really like this size of skirt with an almost-not-there bodice. It would have been prettier in my opinion (and look less like a knitted toilet brush cover) if it had some kind of neckline and shoulder straps.
Taylor Swift is simply stunning in this beautiful understated and elegant gown by Elie Saab. I don’t usually like mullet hemlines but she has the legs to wear anything. I would have liked a silver shoe better. These give a pop of colour but the straps are too thick for the delicate beauty of the dress.
Katy Perry glittered in a white Zuhair Murad dress dripping with crystals. A lovely gown but would have been more beautiful at full length. The only other thing I didn’t love about this gown was the fact that her beige underwear shows through the dress. It should have been lined with something closer to the colour of her dress. It looks a little matronly. Love her hair and her shoes are perfect.
Rita Ora dazzled in this shining, mirror ball type gown from Prada. It was gorgeous but needed to be tailored to fit her better. It would have been nicer with a short hemline. The head to toe look is a bit overwhelming here. Love her cute hair and makeup.
Miley Cyrus downplayed it for a change and looked chic and elegant in this gorgeous black gown with cut outs by Alexandre Vauthier. Nice!
Lady Gaga was super sexy in a elaborate silver shell design gown by Brandon Maxwell and sandals. Love the emerald pendant and earrings they were GORGEOUS and absolutely to die for!
Madonna wore a Givenchy bustier with thigh high leather boots and long leather gloves and a weird hat that made her look like a cross between a matador and a Roman general. The net theme was overplayed (detail on the hat, the gloves, the boots, the shoulders) and although she is in awesome shape the whole thing comes off wrong somehow. When I first saw her hit the red carpet I could only see the top of her sexy bustier so I thought it was a gown. When I saw the bottom, I was no longer loving it. Especially the boots and gloves. I would have liked this bustier to have a long pink skirt and to be a dress without the spiky shoulder pads and the leather gloves…it would have looked fab on her.
Kim Kardashian showed up in a Jean Paul Gaultier design which, although fab, is NOT fab on her. It looks like an oversized bathrobe. It is not tailored, too long at the cuffs and hemline and I’m not really digging the golden spiders crawling all over this gown. The saggy pockets do not suit someone with such wide hips and really make her look dumpy. It looked much better on the runway model.
Luv! This is a bold choice for Kat Graham but she hits it out of the park! A fascinating and different gown it is mostly sheer with white flower petals almost dripping to the floor.
A very pretty silver dress was Mary J. Blige’s choice for the red carpet. The demure halter neckline is très chic. Love the geometric designs on the top.
Malina is one of my best dressed picks of the night. I just love this sparkling pale pink gown especially the ‘bandage’ effect down the skirt. Pretty in pink!
Jessie J wore an exquisite sheer black gown with beaded detail in strategic places. Sheer gowns were a trend last night on the carpet but this was one of my faves!
Another beautiful sheer gown was worn by Jeannie Mai. Although I like this dress, I’m not crazy about the gold leaf thingys crawling up her arms. If they have to be there, they would look better in black.
Nicki Minaj is all va-va-voom in this over the top (or almost ‘out’ of the top) awesome black stunner by Tom Ford. Love her casually upswept ‘do’.
This Proenza Schouler dress on Beyoncé was a miss for me. It does absolutely nothing for her. The long sleeves and boring design coupled with the length just cover her beautiful body up too much.
This Alexandre Vauthier gown is one of my design favorites. Delightfully different, it takes great legs to wear this baby and Ciara has got ’em for sure!
Ashanti wore a pretty black, modern design dress. Love the slit, but I’m not feeling the wrap-around-the-neckline.
Ariana Grande looks adorably cool and chic in this beautiful design by Versace. It looks great on her. I do find that the silver piece reminds me of a dishtowel sewn onto the side of the dress. I hate seeing the waistline where it is all bunched up they should have made a little half-belt to cover it up or ditch the dishrag.
Gwen Stefani wore a Versace jumpsuit specially tailored for her. I actually preferred it with full length legs and to be honest, I am really getting kind of tired of the no-jewellery trend. This would have been so much nicer with some glitz! Her hair style is a bit severe.
Katherine McPhee wore an understated nude coloured Emilio Pucci dress with an interesting neckline. The picture of simple elegance.
Now for some of the fashion misses at the 2015 Grammys…
This is just plain ridiculous but typical of wannabes trying to be noticed. Joy’s gown is made of recycled construction fencing. She is wearing nipple tape and a thong beneath. What has this world come to??!!
Jane Fonda shows us that women of any age can wear this beautiful emerald Balmain jumpsuit. However, I don’t like the thick belt because it hides her waistline and squares off her hips. This is not the most flattering pose for her either.
Well, this outfit will certainly get you noticed. Bill Kelliher goes off the wall…and out of his mind perhaps?
Mali Hunter’s whole look is just bad and wtf are those pink things around her neck?
Ricky Dillard’s red rose print jacket is way out there but I kind of like it. I would have paired it with a white or a black shirt though. Think he took it just a bit too far playing matchy matchy with the chartreuse.
Nina Pastori’s dress was definitely dizzying. There is just way too much going on here with patterns but I like the design. Just not the fabrics.
Jenny Lewis will one day regret this rainbow starred disaster. What were you thinking?!
This outfit that Flip is wearing made me laugh out loud. His jacket looks too small for him. Ripped jeans are cool but not exactly original. Nice touch with the red clown shoes.
