Fall fashion trends for 2015 are actually pretty good news; no major changes from spring/summer fashion so we can still wear trends we have already bought. Additionally there are a few that are becoming even more elaborate which I personally love. I am speaking of embroidery, tapestry, and brocade on everything from coats to gowns. Tassels and fringe, fur trim…I’m one of those who just love embellishment so I think I’m really going to have fun putting my fashion look for fall together this year. The trick is to do it without spending too much money and using ready to wear or vintage clothing 🙂
1. Color
I’m loving the fall colors of soft brown, taupe, mustard, khaki and cream. A trip to Brown’s at Rockland resulted in the purchase of two pairs of boots; a pair of Michael Kors leopard print combat boots and a pair of soft brown suede boots in the new stocking style. They are very fitted to the calf so they fit well over leggings. Bold leggings are everywhere this season. My personal favorite. It’s so easy, warm and comfortable to throw a look together using leggings with sweaters and so affordable! White blouses of all types are the basic this season. Black and white fashion is still HOT.
2. Lengths
I read a lot about longer coat lengths but I’m not seeing them in Montreal stores. A lot of trench coats though. I love a full length coat for blocking unwanted cold drafts but they can drag in the slush so you have to pick up your hem when you get in and out of cars and walk on the street. Ponchos, which seemed to be scarce last year, are now abundant. In skirts midi to maxi are in but the mini is still chic. Pantsuits were everywhere during fashion week.
3. Trending Fabrics
Suede, leather, brocades, knits, patchwork, metallics, patterns and velvets are the exciting new trends in fabrics for fall 2015. Black velvet is the ‘it’ fabric for fall 2015. It’s luxurious texture and elegance was seen everywhere on the runways in coats, pantsuits and skirts.
4. Necklines
Necklines are still variable but there is a definite trend from the boob baring of the past to the Victorian and many designs are featuring refreshing high necklines.
5. Trims
Fur as trim on everything from necklines to shoulders was pervasive on the runways. Fringe was seen on sweaters, ponchos, and also accessories, pom poms and tassels swung on clothing, bags, belts and boots creating pleasing movement for the eye.
6. Influences
Victorian, eighties and eastern influences were seen on the runways at fashion week.
7. Denim
The popularity of head to toe denim rages on this fall in chic ways we never expected. I’m loving this look by Tom Ford which blends denim with patchwork and a color blocked fur trim coat.
8. The Slip Dress
Slinky slip dresses are still on trend this fall but you need a perfect figure for them. The shiny, clingy fabric can be very unforgiving to more full figured women and frankly, being from northern climes, I prefer something warmer for fall and winter evening fashion.
9. Ruffles and Layers
Fluffy ruffles floated back onto fashion runways for fall 2015. I just love the light, airy look of ruffles. There were many different designs blending ruffles with shiny fabric, brocade and eastern influenced colors and motifs. This look by Balmain is killer fashion for the holiday season.
10. Leather
Pinch me! I am in heaven! Let me tell you why…full leather suits are making a BIG comeback. Why do I love leather so much? It looks sexy, never wears out (unlike fabric), never pills, can be wiped clean and smooth leathers are waterproof (note; soft leathers are NOT) and last forever with proper care. Now, if I dig around in my closet, I have about 50 pieces of leather clothing from the eighties to restyle…but it wouldn’t hurt to buy a few more pieces 😉
